Student Information

Dear students,

we welcome you as an important part of our scientific community and hope to see as many of you as possible at INTERSPEECH in Graz in September 2019! Graz is a real student town with about 20% of its population studying at one of its 8 institutions of higher education. No matter whether you are a total newcomer to our field or an experienced PhD student close to graduation, you will find at our conference excellent opportunities to network with fellow students, learn from senior colleagues, enjoy the excellent scientific and social programs, participate in dedicated student events, and mingle with staff from our exhibitors and sponsors - maybe kicking off your next career step.

Your interests are extremely well represented by the International Student Advisory Council (SAC) of ISCA, for more information see the ISCA students page. They are always looking for additional volunteers to support their activities!

Together with the SAC, we will be able to offer a series of events around INTERSPEECH that will meet the special interests of students, please check out our student events page. Besides some well established formats like “Students Meet Experts”, “Doctoral Consortium”, or “ISCA-SAC Mentoring”, we will venture into organising a hackathon, for more info get in touch with our hackathon chairs hackathon@interspeech2019.org Elmar Noeth and Johanna Pirker.

A long standing request by the SAC and finally a dream come true: For the first time ever, INTERSPEECH offers child-care services to participants with parenting responsibilities. And the best: This service is offered free for all registered participants. Check out our childcare page.

INTERSPEECH 2019 is more than happy to announce that it will offer more than 60 ISCA travel grants to students and young scientists (aged 34 and under). Each grant consists of a lump sum of 650 EUR from which costs such as registration fees, accommodation, and transport can be supported. Details will be posted soon on our travel grants page.

And finally, have you ever considered becoming a student volunteer supporting the daily organisation of such a huge scientific event? If you are interested, be quick and drop a line to our volunteer coordinator vc@interspeech2019.org Kathi Pollack. We have an interesting offer for you that combines your learning experience with free accommodation in Graz!

And for those who can’t make it as student volunteers, there is still a special list with budget accommodations availabale on our student accommodation page.
